The best time to seal pavers in Marion County is spring (March through May) or fall (October through November). These windows give you moderate temperatures, lower humidity and dry conditions. Sealer cures properly in these conditions. Summer heat and winter damp both work against a good bond.
June through September in Marion County means afternoon highs in the 90s with humidity above 80 percent. Sealer applied to a hot paver surface flashes off before it can bond properly. The surface dries too fast on top while staying wet underneath. That creates a weak bond that begins peeling within months.
Afternoon thunderstorms add to the problem. The sealer needs a dry surface and a clear window of at least 24 hours to cure. In summer, you can count on a downpour almost every afternoon between 3pm and 6pm. That rain can wash sealer off before it sets.
Summer sealing is not impossible. We do it on cooler overcast days when the forecast cooperates. But it requires watching the weather more carefully and the cure window is tighter. Spring and fall are just easier.
Florida winters are mild compared to most of the country, but December through February brings shorter days, cooler nights and more morning dew. The sealer cures slower in cooler temperatures. Morning dew on the surface can interrupt the curing process before the sun burns it off.
If the temperature drops below 50 degrees at night, which happens regularly in Ocala from December through February, the sealer may not cure completely. You end up with a surface that looks fine but does not bond as well as it should. It wears faster and needs redoing sooner.
March through May gives you daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s, low humidity compared to summer, and fewer thunderstorms. The sealer goes on in ideal conditions and cures evenly.
Spring is also when most homeowners notice their pavers look rough after winter. Leaves have been sitting on the surface for months. Algae has had a damp winter to spread. A spring clean and seal puts the driveway right for the whole summer ahead.
October and November are the second good window. The summer thunderstorm pattern has broken. Temperatures are back in the 70s and 80s. Humidity drops. The ground is drier.
Fall sealing sets the pavers up for winter. It protects against leaves sitting on the surface, algae growing in the damp months and the freeze-thaw cycle that can open up hairline cracks. A driveway sealed in October or November will look better through the whole winter and come out of it cleaner in spring.
Everyone wants spring or fall. Those slots fill first. Call in February for a spring booking and in August for a fall booking. If you wait until April, the spring window may be fully booked. If you call in November, you are likely looking at December or January, which are not ideal.
We schedule around the weather on every job. If rain is forecast, we shift by a day or two. We never seal on a day when rain is expected within 24 hours of application.
Yes, on cooler overcast days when the forecast is clear. Summer sealing is harder because heat flashes the sealer off too fast and afternoon storms can wash it away. Spring and fall are better.
Surface dry in a few hours. Full cure takes 24 to 48 hours depending on temperature and humidity. We give each customer a specific timeline on the day based on actual conditions.
If the sealer has had several hours to set, light rain is usually fine. Heavy rain within the first few hours can wash sealer off or cause it to bloom white. We track the forecast closely and will not seal if rain is expected within 24 hours.
